Harald Kimmig (www.haraldkimmig.de) erhielt von 1966 bis 1974 eine klassische Ausbildung und ergänzte seine Studien bei D. Baker, M.B. Fenell, J. Tchicai und C. Taylor. Seit 1984 ist der Geiger professioneller Musiker. Er gibt Solokonzerte, spielte von 1984 bis 1995 in der Gruppe kxutrio (mit G. Wolf, Kontrabass u. H. Lukas Lindenmaier, Schlagzeug), ist Co-Leader der Grossformation F-Orkestra, die neben Solisten wie B. Collette, P. Kowald, S. Lacy u.a. zahlreiche Musikperformances präsentierte (z. B. Schrottmusik 1988, Niggermusik?! 1993, Der Lärm der Freiheit 1999). Als Solist arbeitete Harald Kimmig u.a. mit J. Tchicai, L. Konitz, M. Nicols, G. Hampel, Sirone. Aus der mehrjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit C. Taylor gingen die beiden CDs Legba Crossing und Corona: Looking hervor.
Aus der Zusammenarbeit mit TänzerInnen / ChoreografInnen entstanden Performances wie Untitled Memories Gate 7 und Himmel und Erde (mit L. Stahl), The Crocodile (mit A. Furukawa), Once in a Lifetime (mit Pretty Ugly Dance Company/Amanda Miller) u.a.. Als Komponist schreibt Harald Kimmig Musiken für Film und Theater, ebenso wie Streichquartette und größere Orchesterwerke (Der Lauf des Lichtes und der Dunkelheit, Oratorium, 1999).
Magda Mayas, born 1979, is a pianist living in Berlin. Developing a vocabulary utilizing both the inside as well as the exterior parts of the piano, using preparations and objects, she explores textural, linear and fast moving sound collage. Alongside the piano, Mayas has recently been performing on a Clavinet/Pianet, an electric piano from the 60s with strings and metal chimes, where she engages with noise and more visceral sound material, equally extending the instrumental sound palette using extended techniques and devices. Mayas performs internationally solo and in collaboration with a large number of musicians and composers.
Current projects are „Spill“, a duo with drummer Tony Buck, a duo with Christine Abdelnour (sax) and „Great Waitress“, a trio with Monika Brooks (acc) and Laura Altman (cl).
She is currently undertaking Phd studies at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and investigating extended instrumental techniques, spectral music and psychoacoustics in an improvised music context.
Since 2013 she has also been producing radio pieces for ABC Australia and Deutschlandradio Kultur and has released 20 CDS to date.
Magda Mayas has performed and toured in Europe, the USA, Australia, Mexico and Lebanon and collaborated with many leading figures in improvisation and composers such as John Butcher, Zeena Parkins, Joëlle Léandre, Paul Lovens, Ikue Mori, Peter Evans, Andrea Neumann and Axel Dörner. She has performed at festivals and exhibitions such as MaerzMusik, Documenta or the Berlin Biennale.
Daniel Studer (www.danielstuder.ch), (* 1961), lebt mit seiner Familie in Zürich (von 1981 bis 1995 in Rom). Kontrabassdiplom, Gastkomponist im Elektronischen Studio in Basel, Komposition bei J. Schöllhorn. Auszeichnung der Stadt Zürich 2010. Improvisation und gemischte Formen von Improvisation und Komposition stehen im Zentrum seiner Arbeit. Verschiedene Raumprojekte, Projekte mit Live Elektronik, Musik und Sprache, Musik und Tanz, Musik zu Videopoesien. Kontinuierliche Zusammenarbeit mit Markus Eichenberger, Peter K Frey, Mischa Käser, Katharina Klement, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Dieter Ulrich und Alfred Zimmerlin. Spielt mit dem Kontrabassduo Studer-Frey, Kimmig-Studer-Zimmerlin (+ Jacques Demierre), Solo, Trio III-VII-XII (mit Mischa Käser und Urs Haenggli) u.a.. Konzerte, Festivals und Radioaufnahmen in verschiedenen Formationen in Europa und Japan u.a. mit L.ester Bowie, Barney Kessel, Riccardo Lay, Mike Melillo, Evan Parker, Tony Scott, Urs Voerkel, Bobby Watson. Aufnahmen auf den Labels ART-PURecords, Edition RZ, EMANEM, Konnex, Percaso, Unit Records. Er ist Dozent an der Hochschule der Künste Bern für das Fach Improvisation-Komposition.
